At what point is a snow emergency declared?

Whenever there is an accumulation of 2 or more inches of snow in a 24 hour period, then a snow emergency is declared. Emergency snow regulations shall mean that no person shall park on any public street or highway in the Village of Sauk City immediately following or during such emergency. Emergency regulation shall continue in effect for 48 hours after the snow has ceased to fall, or until such time as the snow has been removed from the streets or highways in the Village.

Sidewalks- The Village has an ordinance which requires ALL sidewalks to be cleared of snow or ice within 24 hours from the time the snow ceases to accumulate on the sidewalk. If walks are not cleared within the specified period, the Village is authorized to and WILL clear all un-cleared sidewalks. The cost of this work will be charged against the property and, if not paid, will be assessed to the following year's property tax bill.

When is the compost site open?

The compost site is open from Spring through Fall. Exact dates depends on the weather.
It is open on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Fridays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 to 1:00 p.m.

What do I do with my compost and brush?

Compost will be picked up on Mondays. Compost consists of yard clippings and garden waste. All compost should be bagged and placed at the edge of the curb, in the tree bank, by 7:00 A.M. and shall not weigh more than 40 pounds. Residents who wish to haul their own compost, may do so on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M., Fridays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is to be used by Sauk City residents only.

Brush will be picked up on Thursdays. Brush should be piled neatly with all ends placed toward the curb. Brush must be cut no larger than 8 foot lengths and no larger than 3 inches in diameter. Place brush on the tree bank by 7:00 A.M. Residents who hire a contractor to cut their trees are responsible for their own removal.
The Village has wood chips available for Sauk City residents at no cost and you must haul the chips yourself. Contact the Village Hall for more information.

Remember when raking your leaves, always rake to the edge of the tree bank. Leaves should never be raked into the gutter. Also, grass should never be mowed so that it goes into the street or gutter. This can clog up the storm sewers.
